Endurance Sports Series Marks Three Years With 3rd Ruru Triathlon and Duathlon

The day for the Ruiru event, that was described as 'relatively flat and fast', started with the Sprint triathlon comprising a 750m-swim followed by a 21.6KM-cycle and 7.1KM-runAn endurance sport event that was to have been held at Ruiru in central Kenya went down at Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani in Nairobi on April 29, 2018 after a routine water test on the water quality at the 3S Gardens Dam did not meet the international standards set by International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Kenya Triathlon Union and to ensure the health and safety of participants.

The third edition the Ruiru Triathlon and Duathlon attracted 40 participant to the event that has over the past three years been organised by an organisation called Team Tri Fit (TTF) as part of its National Triathlon and Duathlon series.

The day for the Ruiru event, that was described as ‘relatively flat and fast’, started with the Sprint triathlon comprising a 750m-swim followed by a 21.6KM-cycle and 7.1KM-run that saw Mombasa-based Abdalla Mansuor, Samuel Ndonga, Jesse Okaal and Mohammed Omar go head to head in the water. With a flat bike course awaiting them, reports TTF Team Manager Michael Owora, the chase group led by Toby Blake, Raphael Wolf and John Sampson put their heart into the race and caught up with the leaders, creating an exciting run segment where Abdalla Mansur pushed through to take first place while Toby Blake and Raphael Wolf took second and third place, respectively.

In the duathlon event, participants competed in a 7.1KM-run, 21.6KM-Bike and 7.1KM-run where Gathoni Murimi took the women's top honours while Patrick Murimi took the men's title.The Triathlon Team challenge saw six teams go head to head with Xtreme and Shaz Attack setting the pace throughout the event. With a close finish between the two, Team Xtreme took first place, Shaz Attack second and Team Grishon Sandwich third.

In the duathlon event, participants competed in a 7.1KM-run, 21.6KM-Bike and 7.1KM-run where Gathoni Murimi took the women’s top honours while Patrick Murimi took the men’s title.

TTF Team Manager Owora said TTF has hosted more than 10 triathlon events across Kenya that have brought together more than 300 over the past three years.

TTF has hosted more than 10 triathlon events across Kenya that have brought together more than 300 over the past three years. “TTF has trained more than 50 men, women and children to participate in individual and team challenge triathlons. As we start our fourth year, I look forward to interacting with you as we seek to double the number of participants in training and at triathlon events locally,” Owora said.

TTF Race Director Falgun Bhojak said the series will continue raising funds for the purchase and upkeep of gym and rehabilitation facilities at the National Spinal Injury Hospital situated on Lenana Road in Nairobi.
The next event, the Kericho Triathlon and Duathlon Challenge, is on August 12, 2018 at Chesumot Farm.
