
Human Rights Advocates Hold Consultative Public Meeting on South Sudan Ahead of Crucial UN Vote

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Front Line Defenders shall host a meeting to discuss the human rights situation in South Sudan on March 2, 2021.
The three international human rights organisations will present their recent work ahead of a United Nations Human Rights Council as it votes on decide whether to renew the essential mandate of the UN Commission on Human Rights in the troubled eastern African country.

Recent reports by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Front Line Defenders present a comprehensive look at the repression of human rights in South Sudan and make a strong case for the ongoing importance of and need for the meticulous documentation work of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Sudan, the groups said.

The event, ‘Keeping the Light On: The Role of the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan,’ will be streamed on the Facebook pages of Human Rights Watch (@HumanRightsWatch), Amnesty International (@amnestyafrica) and Front Line Defenders (@FrontLineDefenders), as well as on the YouTube channel of Front Line Defenders (www.youtube.com/frontlinehrd) on 2 March at 8:00 to 9:00 EST, / 14:00 to 15:00 Geneva time, / 15:00 to 16:00 Juba time, and 16:00 to 17:00 Nairobi time.
The event is open to the public for viewing and all panelists are available for interviews following the event.
