South Sudan, that is estimated to hold at least eight million tonnes of copper alongside gold, diamonds, cobalt, nickel, lithium and rare earth elements, is out to position itself as Africa’s premier supplier of critical minerals.
Martin Abucha, South Sudan’s Minister for Mining, is set to speak about his country’s plans to leverage rising demand for critical and industrial minerals to fuel the growth of its mining sector during Critical Minerals Africa Summit in Cape Town, South Africa, October 17 – 19, 2023.

African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation, South Africa’s state-owned mining company, is also seeking partnerships with South Sudanese companies to collaborate in the valuation of minerals, capacity building and establishment of a mining-specific regulatory framework, among other strategic areas.
