Kenya Put on Alert for Floods, Mudslides and Displacement
Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced that the October – December 2026 short-rains season will bring above-average rainfall across roughly 80 percent of the country.

1). Through its seasonal outlook report, KMD predicts risks of flash floods in low-lying and urban areas, mudslides in hilly regions and displacement of communities in flood-prone zones
2). The rains, that shall be driven by the El Nino weather phenomenon, shall start in late September in some areas and mid-October in the rest of the country

3). Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Mombasa, Garissa shall receive above average rainfall
4). Rains in western Kenya may extend into January 2027
